Panama City, Panama

Happy Birthday Jo!

I got my first glimpse of Panama City just as the sun was rising about a week ago. I was on the night to dawn sailing watch as we approached Panama City. At first I could not figure out what I was seeing and then I realized that it was the sun, reflecting a vivid orange color off of the windows in the skyscrapers on the city’s distant skyline. Wow, that is something I haven’t seen in awhile.

We are currently anchored right in front of the Bridge of the Americas. If you have been through the canal than you know right where we are. We are about 100 yards from the channel and can watch the huge ships as they pass by. It is especially impressive at night; with only their bow and stern lights on they are like silent monsters, passing by without a sound. This morning we watched a submarine pass through with a full entourage of security boats and helicopter accompanied it.

Our current plans are to visit the Perlas islands for a week or so before going through the canal. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, spending it with some of the people you love.

My next letter will be looking at Central America from a different point of view, the Caribbean point of view!

Love to all,

Jeri and Michael
