Sailing to the Chesapeake

June 29, 2005

We are finally out of Fl. We stayed much longer than expected, partly because of the weather and partly because we have been looking at “new to us” boats. We started out looking at a larger 1 year old Island Packet because it has all of the comforts and space missing in this boat which would make our lives much easier.

Once we started looking at that price range we decided to look into other boats in that price range just to make sure that going with another Island Packet was the way we really wanted to go. In the process of shopping around, we started looking at catamarans. The idea of living on a cat really caught our attention, so that is where most of our energy has been directed. We have narrowed our choices down to 2 which are available right now, the St Francis, which is what Peter and Tina and boys live on and another type called Privilege. We test sailed the St. Francis 50′ and were truly impressed. We currently have an accepted offer in on a 5 yr old Privilege, 47′ and plan on sailing her as soon as we arrive in the Chesapeake Bay.

We left Ft. Lauderdale yesterday a little before noon and are in route right now. It takes about 100 hours, 4+ days to get there. So far the sail has been nice, we had the benefit of the gulf stream pulling us along yesterday, but have lost it today. I will let you know when we arrive.

Bye for now, Jeri
