Little Palm Island: a day of decadence
December 13th, 2006
After an enjoyable return visit to Key West, we were off again, heading towards Ft. Lauderdale. The near shore waters are littered with crab pots, so sailing this area is like weaving our way through a mine field. There are so many of them that there were times when all 3 of us had to watch to avoid running over one. Many anxious moments followed as we watched the stern of the boat waiting for the little buoys to plunge to the surface, indicating that we missed the close call. When we did catch a crab pot, a 3ft square cage, it necessitated Keri and Michael to hang out the back end of the boat struggling to cut the ropes and free the pot. Diving the props to clear them would happen later. Their first releases were really scary because the boat was moving fast. But, by the end of the day they had it down to a science.
We stopped at Little Palm Island for an unexpected day of decadence at the Palm Resort and Spa. Michael offered to treat all of us so we pretended that we were part of the Rich and Famous clientele frequenting the place. At first Keri and I were a little uncomfortable with the extravagance, but we got over it quickly! We all had facials and/or massages, drinks on the beach followed by a delicious dinner and a jazz band. After the sun set the island was set aglow with numerous tiki torches, ahhhh.
