Aphrodite departs the U.S.A.

We departed Ft. Lauderdale this morning at 10 am after what seems like a frenzied few weeks of boat repairs, replacements and provisioning. I don’t know what it is about being in the States, with a rental car, that drives us to into a free for all shopping spree. It is crazy making! Most of it is food and boat parts of course, but still, day after day, dinghy load after dinghy load, enough is enough. We have an enormous freezer, packed so tightly that I have a hard time finding my ice packs, and an entire bedroom closet filled with nonperishable. If you are coming to visit us, fear not, you will not starve!

We are crossing the Gulf Stream right now, uneventful because we waited until the seas and winds died down from recent weather. We expect to make landfall, Nassau Harbor, sometime tomorrow early afternoon. Keri flies in on Monday and then we will leave for The Exuma Islands. Kirstin, Adam and Kaden join us in Turk’s and Calicos for a week in the middle Feb. so we will not dawdle thru the Exumas. After Turk’s and Calicos we sail to Puerto Rico and meet friends from Berkeley in March who will join us for the trip from Puerto Rico to the U.S. Virgin Islands. Then in early April, the Hustlers will join us for another week. Somewhere time along that time table, we will drop Keri off and she will fly back to Seattle and begin her new life in Portland! Wow, we have never had so many people come visit us. It is so exciting to make these plans and share a little bit of our life with others.

More next week as the “real” fun begins again.
